Residential Support Worker OVERNIGHT AWAKE - (2 position)
Lemay Circle - Rockland
Full time 70 hours - starts at $18.69 an hour

Innovative Community Support Services (ICSS) is a non-profit charitable organization that is committed to creating and providing families & individuals with innovative, high quality and cost effective community based programs and services that promote a strong sense of well being while making a positive contribution to our culturally diversified community. 

Staff must have a willingness and passion for supporting individuals who require behavioural support. This position is a residential model for persons who have a dual diagnosis with high and challenging behaviours. The successful candidate will provide case management, outreach, advocacy services and care planning to individuals.

  

Educational

Availability

Requirements

Ø      DSW, CYW or SSW or 3 years experience in the field working with individuals managing mental health issues/developmental delays (dual diagnosis) in the community, or an equivalent combination.

Ø      Must have CPR/First Aid/CPI training.

Ø      Available to work rotating and weekend shifts.



Experience

Requirements


Ø      Experience and ability to deal with challenging behavioural & crisis situations.

Ø      Experience working with Dual Diagnosis, Developmental Disabilities & Mental Health.

Ø      Also well versed and willing to provide personal care as required

Ø      Skilled in utilizing ISP (individual support plan), at least six months' recent community residential support experience involving individuals with intellectual and/or physical challenges.

Ø      Candidates must have a proven track record in the areas of support provision and positive, professional relationships with community partners and families.

Ø      Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Ø      Experience in medication administration and a willingness to support individuals in the area of personal hygiene care and total care as required.



Responsibilities


Ø      Ensure all social needs are being met in the aspects of community involvement; research possibilities for outings/activities and job placement or volunteer work that may be suitable for the resident (ie: volunteer jobs, leisure activities, etc.)

Ø      Support each individual to develop skills and assume roles which promote his/her effective participation in the home and community.

Ø      Implement supports for individuals to achieve personal goals and new skills as established through individual support plans and ISP (individual support plan) Verifies the safety and security of the residents via hourly checks throughout the night.

Ø      Provide support to the residents in the area of personal care; works with other staff to ensure each resident is awake, fed and dressed for the day within the required time frame Ensure that the residence remains safe (Health & Safety, fire drills) and clean at all times

Ø      Participate in training / upgrading opportunities to enhance the level of care and skill being offered to the residents

Ø      Adhere to medication administration Policies and Procedures

Ø      Follow all recording and reporting procedures



Ø      Co-operation, requires a pleasant attitude and displays a good natured manner in working with residents and co-workers

Ø      Cooking, according to nutritional standards, the ability to follow menus and prepare foods to the required dietary levels.

Ø      English communication skills, the ability to follow instructions and complete written forms and reports
