JOB POSTING: COMMUNITY/RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT WORKER (Mental Health/Dual Diagnosis)
ICSS is currently looking for a support worker with a willingness and passion for supporting individuals who require behavioural support. This position is a residential model for persons who have a dual diagnosis with challenging behaviours. The successful candidate will provide case management, outreach, advocacy services and care planning to individuals.
Educational/
Availability
Requirements
- DSW, CYW or SSW or 3 years experience in the field working with individuals managing mental health issues in the community, or an equivalent combination.
- Must have CPR/First Aid/CPI training.
- Available to work rotating and weekend shifts.
Experience

- Experience and ability to deal with behavioural & crisis situations.
- Skilled in utilizing the person centred planning approach, at least six months' recent community residential support experience involving individuals with intellectual and/or physical challenges.
- Candidates must have a proven track record in the areas of support provision and positive, professional relationships with community partners and families.
- Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Experience in medication administration.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all social needs are being met in the aspects of community involvement; research possibilities for outings/activities and job placement or volunteer work that may be suitable for the resident (ie: volunteer jobs, leisure activities, etc.)
- Support each individual to develop skills and assume roles which promote his/her effective participation in the community.
- Implement supports for individuals to achieve personal goals and new skills as established through individual support plans and Person Centered Planning
- Organizing, planning and prioritizing work, developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize and accomplish work tasks.

Ø Ensure that the residence remains safe (Health & Safety, fire drills) and clean at all times
Ø Participate in training / upgrading opportunities to enhance the level of care and skill being offered to the residents
Ø Adhere to medication administration Policies and Procedures
Ø Follow all recording and reporting procedures
Extra Skills
Required
Ø Plan, organize and execute outings for the residents
Ø Cooking, according to nutritional standards
Ø Computer skills
Ø Ability to work as part of a team
